Chapter 12

Author's pov:

The tension in the air was thick as Reyansh, the devil himself, sat in his warehouse, his eyes burning with fury as he watched his men from across the room. A heavy silence hung over the place, and everyone stood frozen, aware of just how angry their boss is today. Reyansh's rage was almost tangible, like a storm about to break. In the midst of it all stood Kabir, solid and unshaken. His loyalty is unwavering, not just to Reyansh’s legitimate business but also to the dangerous world of the mafia that they ran. Kabir could feel that today his loyalty would be pushed to its limits but he was ready for whatever came next.

No one dared to speak to the devil, not even kabir who is his trusted right-hand man. Everyone stood in silence, waiting for their boss to say something that would give them a hint of what had caused the usually emotionless and unshakable man to lose control. Kabir, however, saw through the surface. What appeared to be  rage is far deeper than simple anger. It is guilt that had been boiling over inside him, only to explode into this uncontrollable Anger.

At last, their cold and heartless boss, Reyansh, spoke up, his voice sharp and full of authority. "Kabir, what's going on with the diamond smuggling operation? Any issues with the transport?"

Kabir hesitated, struggling to find the right words. "Yes, boss, everything's clear, but..." He trailed off, sensing the mounting tension in the room.

Reyansh's eyes narrowed with irritation, his temper clearly starting to flare. Kabir knew better not to leave the sentence unfinished. He quickly added, "But, boss, Mr. Donovan is making things difficult. He’s been acting as a mediator and is causing delays and even threatening our ability to meet the contracted deadline."

Suddenly, Reyansh shot up from his chair, his fury evident in every movement. The room instantly fell silent, with every employee lowering their eyes, too afraid to make eye contact. No one dared challenge him.

"Why the hell wasn’t I told about this sooner?" Reyansh roared, his voice ringing through the room.

"I want him here by tonight. If he’s not, none of you will be around to see tomorrow,"  he ordered

Then, his expression shifted. He leaned in closer to Kabir, his voice dropping into more calculated tone.

"What about the other one, I have asked for? Are they under surveillance?"

Kabir nodded subtly, signaling that the monitoring was already in place. Telling his boss about the information that only the two of them fully understood. The rest of the room was left in the dark.

Reyansh smirked, a sinister look in his eyes. "Keep an eye on them. I’ll make use of them when the time comes," he said, his voice laced with menace.

Kabir, though still uncertain, couldn’t understand  that Reyansh had something much darker in mind. Those "simple" people are nothing in his boss's world mere pawns in a much bigger game. But Kabir couldn’t help but wonder, What  is his boss planning?

📍At Advika's college

Advika and her new friend Vivaan walked into the classroom together, but their arrival went unnoticed by the other students. As they entered, Advika couldn't help but feel a sense of difference. Classroom is filled with an overwhelming aura of wealth, as every student seemed to be draped in the latest branded clothes. It was as if they were attending a fashion show rather than a college class.

To Advika's surprise, she and Vivaan are the only ones who looked like typical college students dressed casually and comfortably, without the designer labels that adorned the others. The rest of the class seemed more concerned with showcasing their expensive attire than with the lesson ahead. Advika couldn’t help but feel out of place in this sea of luxury, Advika couldn't shake the feeling that the room’s focus isn't on education, but rather on displaying wealth and status.

The staff finally arrived, and although some students were still not seated, the teacher invited the new student to introduce herself. Advika confidently gave her self-introduction, but she couldn’t help noticing a pair of judgmental eyes watching her, which didn’t go unnoticed by her. She then took a seat next to Vivaan and another girl, who still hadn’t introduced herself.

After the class, during the break, they finally had a moment to talk.

"Advika, this is Meera. She’s my friend, and now she’s your friend too," Vivaan said as he introduced Meera.

Meera, clearly an extreme extrovert, hugged Advika with pure kindness and introduced herself. The three of them began chatting and getting to know each other. And even they shared the previous class notes to her. Suddenly, Vivaan asked about Advika's address.

Advika had already been warned not to mention anything about living with Reyansh,  though she wasn’t sure why. Still, she didn’t want to disappoint him.

"As I mentioned in my introduction, my parents are no longer around... I’m staying with..." She paused

"With whom?" Vivaan and Meera asked simultaneously.

Advika is struggling with her thoughts, trying to figure out what to say about Reyansh. A question kept swirling in her mind,

'What is my relationship with him? Reyansh? A hero? A favorite man? What exactly is he to me?'

She snapped out of her thoughts and, feeling the pressure, quickly blurted out, "With my uncle," laughing awkwardly.

'Did I just turn Reyansh into my uncle? I don't even want to call him that. Poor Reyansh, it's his fault for not wanting to reveal the truth... I didn’t do anything wrong'  She silently cursed herself for lying about him being her uncle.

After that, Advika asked, "What about you guys? You're also looking different from the others, right?"

Vivaan is about to answer, but Meera jumped in. "We’re on scholarships, so we’re not like those rich kids. Plus, Vivaan and I work part-time at a bakery-restaurant," she said, a hint of pride in her voice.

"What about you?" Vivaan asked Advika.

Once again, Advika had to lie. "Through my uncle’s friend and he’s well-off," she said, and Vivaan nodded like he understood.

Then, Advika felt someone staring at her, their gaze intense and Scrutinizing,

"Who is she? Why is she looking at me like that?" she murmured to Vivaan and Meera

Vivaan replied casually, "Oh, that’s Riya. She’s just a show-off, always craving attention. You didn’t even notice her all day, and that probably made slap to her goddess syndrome"

They all chuckled at Vivaan’s mention of "goddess syndrome."

"And everyone only listens to her because her sister, a model, is dating our college chairman," Meera added

"Wait, what’s her sister’s name?" Vivaan asked.

"Sanjana," Meera answered.

Advika paused, thinking that Reyansh’s friend is dating Riya’s sister.  Reyansh had once mentioned that the college owner is one of his friends. The pieces started to come together. They spent the rest of the break gossiping and listening to the class.

📍At Reyansh’s mansion:

Advika returned, hoping Reyansh hadn’t come back yet. She didn’t want to face him just yet. But as soon as she entered, she met with the an sound of vessels crashing to the ground from the kitchen. she hurried there only to find Reyansh standing in the kitchen, wearing an apron and surrounded by a chaotic mess of spilled ingredients and overturned vessels.

Without even asking what was going on, Advika couldn’t help herself. She burst out laughing, as if she were watching an episode of Tom and Jerry, her laughter pure and innocent like a child’s.

"Enough, sweetheart," Reyansh said, his voice soft and gentle though he couldn't stop the smile tugging at his lips.

Advika, still laughing and wiping tear from her eyes,  "What are you doing in the kitchen, Reyansh? What is this mess? Aren’t you supposed to be busy?" she asked, unable to hold back her laugh.

Reyansh walked closer, even though he had intended to keep a little distance from her. But around Advika, that is never easy. He gently wrapped his hand around her waist and pulled her closer.

"You are sooo beautiful," he murmured, his voice full of admiration.

"You look like a goddess in this dress, sweetheart."

Advika’s heart fluttered at the compliment she had longed for, especially from him. A deep blush spread across her face, and she quickly took a step back, trying to mask her shyness and distract herself from the warmth she felt inside.

"I’m asking, Reyansh. Aren’t you busy? What exactly are you doing here?" she asked sarcastically, trying to shift the focus away from her blushing. She remembered how he had left early in the morning without even checking in on her.

Reyansh’s expression softened with guilt as he took a step back. He raised both hands to his ears in a playful gesture of apology,

"Sorry, sweetheart... I know I’m wrong, But it was an important meeting, so I had to leave early this morning. I didn’t mean to leave you alone like that." He looked at her with genuine regret, hoping she would understand.

Advika smiled at Reyansh, her expression softening as she accepted his apology. She then glanced around at the messy kitchen, waiting for him to explain what had led to this chaos.

Reyansh, with a sincere look in his eyes, answered, "I wanted to cook today to welcome my sweetheart home after her first day at college. And also to make up for upsetting my angel earlier," he said, his tone full of genuine emotion.

Advika chuckled softly, shaking her head. "It’s okay, Reyansh. It really isn't necessary," she replied, trying to ease the tension.

But Reyansh wouldn’t let it go. His face lit up with a playful and loving smile as he replied,

"But my angel deserves a treat, doesn’t she? I baked the cake with a lot of effort and struggle. We’re going to enjoy it together, no matter what!"

His words were filled with so much affection, and it was clear that he hadn't even fully realized how deeply he cared for her in that moment.

The atmosphere in the kitchen was filled with warmth, happiness, which they both have been craved for. They both laughed and playfully teased each other as they sat down to enjoy the cake. Advika couldn’t stop blushing at Reyansh’s thoughtful gesture, and they have the cake together, letting the simple moment between them carry all the love and laughter they shared.
