Chapter 9

Author's pov:

Tension hung in the air in Reyansh's cabin. No one dared to enter, afraid of facing his wrath. He was still trying to call her, but her line remained busy, which only fueled his anger. Suddenly, the door swung open, and his best friend, Rishabh, barged in, talking on the phone and laughing. Reyansh’s frustration mounted at the sight of him casually chatting, and his anger flared even more. Rishabh ended his call when he noticed Reyansh's visibly irritated demeanor and took a seat across from him.

"Why are you here? I'm not in the mood to talk to you," Reyansh said, his voice seething with anger as he gritted his teeth.

Rishabh sighed, clearly enjoying himself, and decided to tease Reyansh further.

"Do you know who I was talking to on the phone just now?" he asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Reyansh, uninterested in hearing Rishabh's pointless words, ignored him.

"I don't care, just leave! I'm already mad at you for what you did a few hours ago at my house!" Reyansh yelled, his anger boiling over. But Rishabh didn’t seem the least bit intimidated by his outburst.

Rishabh shrugged and, with a mischievous smirk, asked again, "Do you know who I was talking to?"

Reyansh, unable to tolerate any more, knew his best friend would keep nagging until he listened. With a sigh of resignation, he nodded for Rishabh to continue.

Suddenly, Rishabh jumped up from his chair and began stepping backward. He moved toward the cushion and stood beside it.

Throughout all this, Reyansh was utterly confused, unable to figure out what his best friend was doing. He was sure that Rishabh had lost his mind just a minute ago, he had been nagging him to listen, and now he was standing in the corner of the room.

"Rishabh, I already have so much work piling up. Please don't pull any stunts here. Just say whatever you want and leave," Reyansh said irritably.

"Bro, actually, I was talking to Advika on the phone," Rishabh replied, mischief gleaming in his eyes.

Reyansh immediately understood why his best friend had been standing at a distance.

His frustration now morphed into full-blown fury. He shot up from his chair and took long strides toward Rishabh.

Rishabh, sensing the dangerous aura around Reyansh, realized he had provoked a beast and was now approaching him to pounce. Just as Reyansh was about to reach him, Rishabh, fear creeping into his voice, blurted out,

"Bro, I'm just kidding! Advika is like a sister to me!"

Reyansh, sensing the tension ease, relaxed slightly. Rishabh, seeing the shift, added, "I was just messing with you, bro both now and earlier at your house."

After hearing this, Reyansh felt a sense of calm that was almost like a great achievement in his life. But soon, his expression turned serious, and he opened his mouth to ask a question. However, he was cut off by Rishabh.

"I know, bro, what you want to ask. Won't a brother talk to his sister on the phone?" Rishabh said, to which Reyansh nodded in agreement.

Both of them settled into their respective chairs, and Reyansh asked,

"Then why the hell did you do all that? You know, every word you said was running through my mind and completely ruining my mood."

Rishabh patted Reyansh's shoulder and replied, "Reyansh, when I walked into your house today, I was shocked to see a woman there, other than Sharadha Ma. I've never seen you let a woman stay at your place. But honestly, she's such an angel. You know how innocent she is. At first, she struggled to even say a word to me, but after a while, she started talking non-stop, sharing everything about you and herself." He said this with genuine brotherly affection in his eyes.

"What did she say about me?" Reyansh asked, his curiosity evident.

Rishabh had never seen his friend so curious before.

"She talked about everything how you two met, how my cold, ruthless mafia friend calls her sweetheart, and how her sweet Reyansh helped her enroll in a PG degree... so much more. I was dying to tease you, so I played a little game. And you know what? She even called you the sweetest person she's ever met in her life."

"Sweetest person?" That phrase echoed in Reyansh's mind.

A smile spread across his face, as if it had a life of its own. He felt an overwhelming happiness, like a child who'd just received his favorite candy. He felt proud that she called him the sweetest person.

The sweetest person only to his sweetheart.

Rishabh, watching closely, noticed the rare sight of a genuine smile on his best friend's face, something he hadn’t seen in years.

"Hello, loverboy, snap out of your thoughts," Rishabh said, interrupting Reyansh's moment.

"Who’s the loverboy?" Reyansh asked, raising an eyebrow.

"You," Rishabh pointed at him with a smirk.

"I’m not," Reyansh gritted his teeth. "I don’t do love, Rishabh. Don’t you know that?"

Rishabh sighed, thinking to himself when Reyansh would finally accept his feelings. Realizing he had no more advice to offer on love, he stood up and left, offering a simple goodbye.

But Reyansh remained lost in thought, still basking in the happiness of being called the sweetest person by his sweetheart. His smile widened when he saw her name flash on his phone screen.

He picked up the call, but before he could speak, Advika's panicked voice filled the line.

"Reyansh, come home quickly, please help me... please!" Her voice was laced with fear and anxiety before the call abruptly ended. He tried calling her again, but she didn’t answer.

Reyansh felt a rush of confusion and concern. What could have happened to his sweetheart, even in her own home? He quickly left the office, speeding toward his house, his heart racing with worry.
